Monique's artistic journey is deeply intertwined with the captivating natural beauty of New Zealand, where her childhood was spent exploring beaches and forests that inspired her creativity. With a degree in Art and Design, Monique embarked on a career in a media agency before relocating to Ireland, where she balanced painting with the joyful chaos of raising five children.
Monique’s time in Europe enriched her artistic perspective, exposing her to diverse landscapes, architecture and cultures that left an indelible mark on her work. After 12 years abroad and a sell-out solo exhibition, Monique and her family returned to their homeland, New Zealand.
Now based in Auckland, Monique’s studio in Mt Eden serves as her sanctuary, cocooned within a garden she has grown and nurtured. With global resonance, Monique’s work serves as a conduit to nature’s ever-changing beauty, evoking the liberation and inspiration it bestows upon us.
Deeply inspired by the natural world, Monique's art embodies the essence of freedom and the beauty of living in the present.
Alongside her oil paintings, she dedicates considerable time to sketching in graphite, ink and charcoal - mediums through which she captures moments, special places and explores new ideas.
Currently delving into the realm of abstract painting, Monique channels the ever-changing elements and hues of nature, while incorporating touches of gold leaf crosses as a symbol of spirituality, inner strength, and divine guidance. Monique integrates her passion for poetry and language into the layers of paint, deepening the conversation and inviting further contemplation.
